Our Story
While Heart for Monroe is based in Monroe, North Carolina, the idea for the organization was sparked in an unlikely place. In 2014, while in the Dominican Republic, the people who would become our leadership were moved by what they saw while on the mission field. They realized that the needs of those in the Dominican Republic weren’t all that different from the needs of those who live in Monroe, and, as a result, they also realized they did not have to travel over 1,300 miles away to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Four months later, Heart for Monroe was born.
We are a nonprofit organization that exists to unite and mobilize churches, community organizations, ministries, businesses, and individuals to address three primary needs in the community: hunger, homelessness, and education. It is our mission to not only address these needs to the fullest extent possible, but also to create meaningful and lasting relationships within the community while doing so.
We believe that we are called to be missionaries right where we are. Jesus tells his disciples that hungry souls are abundantly available everywhere, but the laborers are few. For us, it’s all about loving God, loving people, and coming together to serve as one.
Through a series of mission opportunities, events, and programs – we will change people’s lives and continue to have a positive impact in our community.
Let’s work together with one heart and one mission.
